You don't have to be ill to benefit from Shiatsu. It can simply be a pleasant way to relax and de-stress. Also, Oriental Medicine is as much about preventing disease as it is about curing it. There is a saying in China that you pay your doctor as long as you are well but you stop paying them if you get ill. Shiatsu is all about keeping the body in balance and periodical treatments will help sustain this. Having said this there are many common ailments that can be helped by Shiatsu and if you suffer from any of the conditions listed on the right, then you may benefit from Shiatsu. The TreatmentAt the beginning of the first treatment a case history will be taken and questions about presenting symptoms, general health, lifestyle, diet and other factors will be asked. The treatment itself will last about forty five to fifty minutes and takes place on a thin futon on the floor, although a chair or stool may be used in certain circumstances, for example: if it is difficult or uncomfortable for the receiver to lie down for a length of time. During the treatment you remain fully clothed and because it is normal, as the energy moves inwards, to become cooler, it is advisable to wear warm, loose fitting clothing for example: leggings or tracksuit bottoms and a warm top. Please avoid alcohol and heavy meals before your treatment. Please tell your practitioner if: You have any medical or structural problems.
